UPDATE: SPOTTING DIFFERENCES AMONG RESALE PLATFORMS-FOR THE SAME BAG AND SOLD BY THE SAME RESELLER-WHEN A "SALE"PRICE IS ACTUALLY HIGHER

Last month, in a blog post, I compared the same Gucci Diana small tote listed by Rebag across multiple platforms (Rebag, ThredUp, eBay, and Walmart) to show the importance of cross-shopping and to compare factors such as price, shipping costs and return terms.

Since that post, I’ve continued to track those listings and recently received a notification about a price drop. Below is a dubious pricing change I noticed, tied to an "alleged" price drop by one of the platforms that surfaced after my March 10th review.

ThredUp Price Drop?

An April 3, 2026 ThredUp email alert regarding this Diana Gucci bag announced a "Price drop alert," listing the bag at $2,999.99, discounted from $3,100.00. However, a quick look at my notes revealed a puzzling reality: when I reviewed this bag for my March 10th post, it was priced at $2,899.99, exactly $100 less than this current "offer."

How can it be a discount when the current price is actually higher than it was a month ago? It’s a misleading marketing tactic designed to create a false sense of urgency, but seeing it play out on a resale platform is a clear reminder to always read the fine print, keep detailed notes, and ask questions.

If I were serious about purchasing this bag, I would reach out to ThredUp with my documentation and ask that the original $2,899.99 price be honored.

ThredUp is the only reseller to show a price increase for this bag since last month, while the other resale platforms have all adjusted their pricing downward.

Comments about 4/3/26 prices

For Rebag + members, the price is $2,508.

States price is reduced from $3,199.99 and that the estimated retail is $3,768.

Note includes: Rebag's estimated retail prices are constantly updated based on numerous data points in the luxury secondhand market."

There is price listed $2,919 that is crossed out, showing the $2,640.

There is a price listed $2,700 that is crossed out, and stating "You save $140."

I’ll keep tracking this bag, but for now this so-called discount is a good example of why shoppers should stay alert, document prices, and challenge platforms when the math tells a different story. When something looks off, a screenshot, a date, and a polite question might go a long way.

April 3, 2026 and April 8, 2026. The bag reviewed here may no longer be available on these platforms. The only significant interaction I've had with Rebag is receiving quotes for handbags that I looked to sell and I did not move along with the selling process. My interactions with them have been entirely positive and frictionless.I have not received any compensation for writing this post. The image of a handbag with red stars was created by Gemini AI Pro.
